About the Ocean Justice Advisory Group (OJAG)

OJAG envisions a thriving ocean community, centering both people and nature, built on the power of justice, equity, inclusion, love, and the sacredness of the Ocean.

OJAG works together to build more just and equitable ocean, coastal and Great Lakes policy outcomes. OJAG was formed from a group of community-focused organizations brought together in 2021 when discussions on justice and equity became more prominent in the mainstream ocean policy space. OJAG formed a commitment to address the urgent need for change in ocean and coastal policy to incorporate the perspectives of BIPOC communities, increase representation, and create stronger and more equitable outcomes. These organizations envision a thriving ocean community, centering both people and nature, built on the power of justice, equity, inclusion, love, and the sacredness of the Ocean.

OJAG is working to support on-the-ground actions in collaboration with local groups to drive community change, using the examples and achievements of these actions to influence and shape US policy at the federal, state, and local levels.

If your organization is interested in supporting OJAG, please reach out to Kevin Bryan (kbryan@merid.org) and Liana Quiñones (lrquinones@merid.org).
